BFRBs can affect some members in families while not impacting others. Research suggests that genetic factors play an important role, and recent advances in genomic technologies offer new opportunities to identify genes contributing to BFRBs. A better understanding of the biological underpinnings of BFRBs may inform the future development of effective treatments.
